Lightness, cooling and safety are the pillars of an off-road helmet and since this is based on one, the AGV AX-8 DS EVO already comes to the table with the features that street helmets often neglect. And yet, because the AX-8 DS EVO is a dual sport helmet, AGV has gone ahead and ensured that the comfort and aerodynamics are up to par for all day road going excursions. Whether the need is vision, air or just comfort, this hybrid takes in all riding conditions with confidence.
Speed and Strength is no stranger to the entry level helmet segment and it appears they’ve redoubled their efforts with the new aggressively shaped SS1200 United By Speed helmet. The basic formula of the SS1200 is nothing groundbreaking, a tried and true thermo-poly alloy shell, but the well-executed design makes it a solid and safe choice. Large chin and forehead vents pair with equally large Venturi vents on the back and to take things one step further Speed and Strength has supplied the SS1200 with a chin curtain and breath guard.
When you write out a list of the features you want in a helmet, the GMax GM32 surprisingly meets just about all of them. It’s got a visor that snaps on and off, a drop down sunshield and an interior that is moisture wicking and removable. Venting is already going to be good on a 3/4 but GMax has nevertheless still taken the time to add vents above the brow and along the back. And because this is a GMax, the price is hard to beat.
Official Licensed MARVEL® product, the CL-17 isn’t just one digit more name wise, it is a nice evolution of an already very good budget helmet, now with a cool graphic. Not groundbreaking in construction, the design is nevertheless well throughout and well put together. The lighter and stronger polycarbonate composite shell is a nice step forward, as well is the refined ACS ventilation system which makes a big difference in improving ride comfort. Shield changes are done by way of HJC’s very easy to use Rapidfire™ system and though not equipped with Pinlock®, the shield is prepared for it. All things considered, the CL-17 is popular for a good reason. It has great features, a solid construction and nice looks at a hard to say no price.
